![]() ![]() But in my world, typically someone is paid for digital work, the creator uploads to their own Drive account, and then has been "sharing" the folder to the person who paid for the work. If the recipient hasn't saved a copy of those files then the recipient is SOL. It's being SHARED with someone, and the person who initiated the sharing can "take it back" at any time. The very literal term "sharing" is what is happening. I realized a couple months ago that's not what is actually happening. In my professional world, "sharing" is usually intended for "giving", or transferring files/folders. I know that when other professionals have shared folders with me, it usually says "Owned by OTHERPERSON". I don't know why or how this is so difficult to achieve, but here I am having to ask ha. You have to jump through a bunch of extra hoops to get those files truly 'transferred' to me, and it's easy to forget to do.Īll I need is the ability to use MY paid storage plan (whatever plan that may be!) and allow for other users to upload/deposit files into my account and everything is automatically owned by me, since it was uploaded into my folder. even when I am the owner/creator of the FOLDER. I recently learned the hard way after a lot of agony that even with a paid Google One plan that when you share a folder, any account that contributes files to that folder is considered the "owner" of the files they uploaded and therefore uses the space from the account that uploaded the FILE. whose storage is it consuming? Mine as the owner/admin account? Or is it part of the users individual storage limits of 2TB? Same question, but what if I have other accounts that I pay for IN my Workspace contribute files to that folder. If I share the folder with someone NOT in my Workspace account (a regular free Google user), whose Drive storage space is used for those files? And am I automatically the 'owner' of those files? ![]() Lets say I have a Workspace account, I create a Drive folder and then share it. I'm currently on an individual user account with a paid Google One plan and am considering 'upgrading' to Workspace. ![]()
